What is Dental Sedation?
Dental sedation uses medication that can be given in a variety of ways to help make patients more comfortable during long dental procedures.
It can also be used to relieve stress in anxious patients and to make treatment easier for patients that have a severe gag reflex.
Regardless of their situation, dental sedation allows our patients to receive the critical oral health care they need to keep their teeth and gums healthy.
Our dentists can help you decide if sedation is right for your situation.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide is an inhaled sedative. With nitrous oxide, you will remain awake and able to communicate throughout your procedure but will experience a calming effect.
This medication also tends to lessen anxiety, increase pain threshold, reduce gag reflex and make time pass more quickly.
IV Sedation
IV sedatives achieve the deepest level of sedation without general anesthesia. They are administered into the bloodstream through an IV placed into a vein.
Our dental team will attach you to a monitor so that the dentist can keep track of vital signs during the procedure.
General Anesthesia
General anesthesia is a controlled state of unconsciousness that eliminates awareness, movement and discomfort during dental treatment. Complex treatments can be completed while you are asleep in one appointment.
